Introduction
Karlovo údolí is an exceptional and picturesque corner in the middle of beautiful nature on the threshold of the České Švýcarsko National Park. In recent years it was almost forgotten, but now it is slowly coming back to life.
It was discovered for people in modern history by Mr. Karl Schütz, the owner of a bakery in Šluknov, who, during the construction of the railway line between Rumburk and Šluknov in 1872, set up a soup kitchen for workers and curious passers-by. A few years later, when he started to build a larger restaurant, which already stood on the same site as the later spa hotel, he discovered a Neolithic stone ax while digging the foundations, which may testify that people passed through this valley thousands of years ago.
Over the past 140 years, Karlovo údolí first witnessed great fame, when people from all over the world flocked here to spend a few days in the famous sun and air baths, then it survived both world wars in an almost unchanged form and functioned as a place of rest and meeting until approx. until the 1980s, although its fame gradually declined from the 1950s onwards.
The last 10 years have dealt the most terrible blows to the once beautiful hotel building with a restaurant and to the entire area, when the building ceased to be inhabited and the materials and equipment were gradually stolen and the structure subsequently degraded. The work of destruction was completed by long-term seepage and frost cycles, the area including artificial lakes, gazebos and forest theater was taken back by nature, and Karlova údolí fell asleep like a rosehip kingdom in a fairy tale.
In the spring of 2016, the prince and his family wandered here, they cut through nettles and blackberries and discovered the original concrete lake in the park's deposit of soil and leaves. From that moment, Charles Valley was forever etched in their hearts and they decided to try a miracle and do their best to bring joy and life back to this place.
